Forum on preparations for the Congress of the Universal Postal Union will be held in Minsk

The Regional Strategic Forum 2019 will be held in Minsk from July 9-10 to prepare for the 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Such information is posted on the website of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, BelTA informs.

It is planned to attend about 100 representatives from Europe and Central Asia. The forum will discuss such topics as an assessment of the regional implementation of the Istanbul World Postal Strategy at the moment, a discussion of the regional component of the future Abidjan Postal Strategy, the definition of regional priorities for the years 2021-2024.

In April, in order to prepare for the congress, a regular meeting of the UPU Administrative Council was held at the headquarters of the Universal Postal Union in Bern (Switzerland). The Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization Natalia Gordeenko took part in the meeting as an observer from Belarus. Currently, the UPU Governing Body is working on the topical issue of system reform applicable to contributions from the UPU member countries, and the new model should be as transparent and fair as possible. This issue was submitted for consideration by holding an extraordinary absentee congress of the UPU in September 2019.

In addition, there were meetings of the commissions, which addressed topical issues of general management systems, risk management and administrative information support, integration of the logistics network and payment systems, technical assistance, research and information support from the UPU, the development of e-commerce policy frameworks and e-services, the contribution of the UPU and member countries to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the implementation of the development cooperation policy, etc. A meeting of the UPU Advisory Committee and the UPU Plenum was also held. "The meeting of the Governing Body of the Universal Postal Union was an important stage in preparing for the 27th UPU congress in 2020 and made it possible to outline directions for the further development of postal services, taking into account current global trends," the Ministry of Communications noted.

The 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union will be held in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) in 2020.
