Minsk to host Belarus-Uzbekistan Forum of Regions on 29-30 July

The First Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan will be held in Minsk on 29-30 July during the official visit of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Belarusian capital, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic, the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament.

Attending the forum will be representatives of the regions, ministries and departments, parliaments, and business communities of the two countries. The delegation of Uzbekistan will be led by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) Sadiq Safaev. The Uzbekistan delegation will include representatives of Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Namangan, Samarkand, Xorazm, Fergana and Tashkent regions.

“The forum will work in three sections: industrial cooperation, agriculture and cooperation in humanitarian, information, communication and scientific fields.

The plenary will focus on cooperation of the regions as a key factor in the development of interstate relations,” the press service of the upper house informed. It is expected that around 15 interregional cooperation agreements and commercial contracts will be signed during the forum.

Guests and participants of the forum will get familiar with the exhibition of Uzbek goods. Themed expositions will be on show on the sidelines of the panel discussions. A monument to Uzbek poet Ali-Shir Nava'i will be unveiled in Minsk during the forum.

The trade between Belarus and Uzbekistan went up by 20% from 2017 to total $157 million in 2018.
