IMF to possibly revise Belarusian economy growth projections after missions to Minsk

The International Monetary Fund may revise Belarusian economy growth projections after the current mission and after forthcoming Article IV consultations, BelTA learned from Advisor to the Executive Director Alexander Zaborovsky during the Kastrycnicki Economic Forum (KEF) on 31 October.

Alexander Zaborovsky believes: “Thanks to the Belarus-IMF dialogue the fund now has much more information for updating the projections. It is a very good sign. Intensive ongoing discussions will help the IMF mission to get the necessary information that will allow revising the projections after Article IV consultations.”

“Speaking as an expert and not an IMF representative, I can say I have a feeling that the forecast will be revised after Article IV consultations and the publication of the report,” he added.

An International Monetary Fund mission is in Belarus on 29 October – 5 November to evaluate the economic situation. An IMF mission is expected to visit Belarus in early 2020 for Article IV consultations. Bilateral consultations with member states are arranged within the framework of this article. It is usually done every year. A number of IMF specialists are expected to arrive, gather economic and financial information, and discuss economic changes and economic policy with government agencies. The IMF specialists will prepare a report after returning to the IMF HQ.

The IMF's previous projections expect the Belarusian economy to grow by 0.3% in 2020.
