More than 4.8 million tonnes of grain have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the Telegram channel of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 11 August, 1.519 million hectares planted to grain and leguminous crops (excluding corn, buckwheat, millet) were harvested, or almost 70.8% of the target. In the lead is Brest Oblast with 282,100 hectares, or 83.6% of the areas cropped. Gomel Oblast cropped 76,2% of its areas (265,400 hectares), Mogilev Oblast – 72.9% (237,800 hectares), Minsk Oblast – 69% (328,800 hectares), Vitebsk Oblast – 64.8% (223,200 hectares) and Grodno Oblast – 58.4% (182,100 hectares).

All in all, 4,862,000 tonnes of grain were threshed, with the average yield at 32 centners per hectare.

The second hay cutting was completed on 762,600 hectares (93.9% of the plan). A total of 830,200 tonnes of hay (74.3% of the target) has been harvested so far, as well as 11,794,000 tonnes of haylage (87.3%) and 339,300 tonnes of silage (1.75%).

Недоберем порядка 300 тысяч тонн зерна к уровню прошлого года» — аграрии Минщины об уборочной

An abnormally hot summer with temperatures plus 30-35 degrees negatively affected the grain harvest. The Mlyn.BY correspondent was informed about this by the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Regional Executive Committee.

By this time, about 60% of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested from the fields of the Minsk region. The farmers of the central region have threshed more than a million tons of grain.

The harvesting of winter rapeseed has been practically completed. More than 230 thousand tons were received.

In general, the harvesting campaign will be completed taking into account the natural and climatic conditions. And if force majeure does not happen - prolonged torrential rains - they plan to finish it in the next 10 days.

- Now the main task is to quickly prepare for winter sowing. The whole range of works is underway: fertilization (both organic and mineral). We also started sowing winter rapeseed. We plan to complete it by August 25, - said Sergey Primachenko, Deputy Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Regional Executive Committee.

The committee added that the dry years that happened in Belarus this year had a negative impact on the development of plants.

- We expected a more weighty loaf than we have now. However, during the grain filling phase, a stressful effect on the plants occurred - the air temperature rose above plus 35 degrees. So there was a moisture deficit, blocking of the root system in cereals. As a result, we will not get about 300 thousand tons of grain compared to last year. 10 days of normal stable weather was not enough for us to thresh the originally planned 2 million tons.

Procurement of green fodder also continues in the region. More than 10 thousand tons of fodder are harvested daily. During the harvesting period, inter-farm teams were created.

- At the moment we have 2 million 800 thousand tons of green fodder, - said Sergei Primachenko. - If you look at the conventional head of cattle, then we are lagging behind last year's level by an insignificant figure - less than one fodder unit. Fodder failure also occurred due to drought. The grasses did not grow back. As a result of the sown one-year groups, we were forced to strategically harvest on the green conveyor, which is required daily for livestock in order not to waste milk. However, we can compensate for this lag in three days when the grass regrowth.

As explained in the committee on agriculture and food of the regional executive committee, today there is an intensive regrowth of grasses of the third cut. The farmers were actively involved in the work.

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about education quality and standards at a meeting with representatives of the general public, experts, and mass media titled as the Big Conversation with the President on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that education is of paramount importance. “If we fail to address problems in education, we will not be able to tackle a single problem in the society. This is our most painful issue,” he said.

The Belarusian leader noted: “We will embark on it right away, on 1 September. We will take all the necessary decisions to restore order at educational institutions, we will develop appropriate standards and approaches, so that they [students] understand that this state gives them resources and knowledge - the foundation of their future - free of charge,” he said.

Parents also play an important role in the educational and upbringing process, the head of state believes. “The school will not be able to do anything without parents. I am a father myself, I am a parent. And I understand: for a child to be a success, he/she should study. But we also have problems with some parents. I think that after last year's events, parents realized what they could lose, and they will convey this message to their children. We will get schools, universities, vocational schools involved. We will not put pressure on anyone. We will just put things in order, introduce a standard that everyone should comply with. And this is a huge amount of work that we will not be able to handle at a time. We will get down to work on 1 September. We will monitor what is going on there in schools. We will no longer raise opponents to our state at universities. But it is imperative that young people should have their own point of view. I visited Belarusian State University and they raised a lot of questions. When you talk to them, explain to them these matters, you see that they are completely different people - they understand everything,” he concluded.
