Belarus, Georgia urged to maintain high dynamics of contacts

Belarus and Georgia should continue maintaining high dynamics of contacts. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement as he met with Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze on 4 September, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei said: “Our contacts are vigorously developing at all levels starting with the top and ending with contacts between ministries, government agencies, various enterprises. We should maintain high dynamics of contacts in the future.”

Vladimir Makei pointed out the development of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Georgia. In January-June 2017 Belarus' trade with Georgia totaled $53.3 million, 28.4% up from the same period of last year. Yet Vladimir Makei stated that the countries had been unable to reach their intended goals so far. “We are on the way to these goals,” he remarked.

In turn, Mikheil Janelidze said he believes that the countries have a considerable potential for advancing bilateral cooperation. “We are happy that our bilateral relations are advancing across the board,” said the diplomat. “In the sphere of politics we enjoy very good understanding in the bilateral format and the international one. Together we participate in the Eastern Partnership Initiative. We will work hard to find projects that will benefit the region.”

Mikheil Janelidze spoke about cooperation in cultural affairs. He noted that the recent Tbilisoba festival in Minsk was quite popular. “We will also be happy to encourage and contribute to the organization of Days of Belarus in Georgia. It brings our nations closer to each other,” stressed the official.
