Brest Oblast to cooperate with Bukhara, Sirdaryo regions of Uzbekistan

Brest Oblast plans to sign cooperation agreements with the Bukhara and Sirdaryo regions of Uzbekistan at the First Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, BelTA learned from the department of foreign economic ties and investment activity of the economy committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

Interregional agreements on cooperation in trade, economic, sci-tech, cultural and humanitarian areas between the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the khokimiats of the Bukhara and Sirdaryo regions of Uzbekistan will be signed on 30 July as part of the plenary session of the forum. The documents will be inked by head of the Brest delegation, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Anatoly Klets and the deputy khokims of the Bukhara and Sirdaryo regions.

“The assistance in finding potential partners and establishing new ties was provided by the Belarusian embassy in Uzbekistan. A number of contracts will be also signed at the forum,” said representatives of the department of foreign economic ties and investment activity of the economy committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

The Brest delegation has comprised representatives of local authorities and businessmen. Bilateral cooperation with Uzbekistan will be discussed by heads of Brestmyasomolprom, the regional office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Brest Hi Tech Park. The discussion panel on industrial cooperation will be attended by representatives of the Baranovichi Cotton Production Association, Pinsk's Polesye and other big industrial companies of the region.

In 2018, the mutual trade between Brest Oblast and Uzbekistan soared 75% from 2017 to reach $20.5 million. Brest Oblast posted trade surplus. Local producers sold $14.5 million worth of products to Uzbekistan, increasing supplies more than two times. In January-May 2019, mutual trade totaled $5.3 million, demonstrating the growth of 47.8% to the same period a year ago. The Brest Oblast top ten exporters include Brestgazapparat, Bereza Creamery, Baranovichi Dairy, Santa Bremor, Berezastroymaterialy, Ivatsevichdrev, Belsolod, Savushkin Product, Pinsk Artificial Leather Plant, Belovezhskiye Syry. The imports from Uzbekistan are mainly made of cotton yarn, fresh and dried fruit, white goods.
