Plans to set up experimental enterprise in Belarus in 2020 to make electric vehicles

An experimental enterprise to make electric vehicles is supposed to be established in Belarus in 2020, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov during the national congress of the Belarusian scientific community on 24 January.

The official said: “Today we demonstrate our electric bicycle and our electric motorcycle. We are going to set up an experimental manufacturing enterprise in 2020. We have only prototypes for now. I think we are going to create unique products to customers' orders.” Vladimir Gusakov pointed out that many clients are interested in custom-made vehicles that exactly match their preferences. The enterprise may be established to accommodate such desires.

Speaking about recent events of importance for Belarusian science, Vladimir Gusakov mentioned the development of the schematic design of a new satellite, new unmanned flying vehicles, and the creation of new varieties of agricultural crops. “We have resolved baby food problems. At present virtually all kinds of baby food are products developed by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Not simply research products – they are manufactured by a number of enterprises,” he explained.

According to the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, R&D efforts in the area of biotechnologies are of great importance. They focus on making new kinds of fertilizers, stimulators to encourage the growth and development of crops, particularly in a dry climate. Scientists have come up with a strategy to adapt farming in Belarus to climate change taking into account world trends in climatology.

About 500 representatives of academic science, university science, industry-specific science, young scientists, heads of ministries and government agencies, heads of higher education institutions took part in the national congress of the Belarusian scientific community. An exhibition was arranged at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to demonstrate accomplishments and the most significant results of R&D and innovation efforts, featuring over 300 new products. The main purpose of the exhibition is to demonstrate results of scientific research and development of Belarusian scientists and the effectiveness of government programs.

The Belarusian Science Day is marked on the last Sunday of January.
