Belarus' agricultural export to Tajikistan up by 2.5% in 2019

Belarus exported $6.8 million worth of agricultural products and foodstuffs to Tajikistan in 2019, which was up by 2.5% than in 2018. The matter was reviewed during a meeting of the Belarusian-Tajik intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation chaired by Belarus Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Khotko, BelTA learned form the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The trade in agricultural and food products between the two countries in 2019 amounted to $8.1 million. Belarus supplied bone flour, malt, poultry, frozen beef, milk whey, skimmed milk powder, breeding cattle, bread, flour and confectionery and other products to Tajikistan. Imports of agricultural products from Tajikistan totaled $1.3 million last year. Major items were cotton fiber and dried fruits.

The Belarus-Tajikistan trade made up $36.3 million in 2019. Exports came at $33.2 million, imports amounted to $3.1 million. Belarus had a surplus of $30.1 million in trade. Export range featured 176 commodity items, of which 61 were new ones. Last year Belarus supplied cars for transporting 10 or more people, tractors and truck tractors, sugar, carpets and tafting flooring to Tajikistan. “The enterprises and organizations did a good job to increase the supplies of refrigerators, freezers and refrigeration equipment, flour, meat by-products and fish, chocolate and other ready-made foodstuffs containing cocoa, whey, condensed and dry milk and cream, breeding cattle,” the press service noted.

The meeting summed up the results of the work to promote cooperation with Tajikistan in 2019, reviewed the cooperation in agriculture, industry, education, health, culture, interregional cooperation, ways of developing the legal framework and the measures to increase Belarusian exports in 2020.
