Belarus calls on EEU member states to observe common import rules

Belarus calls on the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union to observe the established rules for the import of products to the common market, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said when commenting on the statements of some Russian officials criticizing Belarusian enterprises for the use of raw materials from certain EU countries that are waging the so-called ‘war on memorials'.

Vladimir Makei explained that members of different unions, including the Eurasian Economic Union, have common rules. One of them is that if the imported raw materials undergo processing in the territory of Belarus, the product is considered Belarus-made and can be supplied to the EEU market.

“I believe it is necessary to observe the established rules. My colleague and I have agreed that such cases should be dealt with by specialists. There is no need to make them public. They should be addressed at the level of experts without fuss and without involving the media,” the diplomat said.

Vladimir Makei pointed out that the Belarusian side does not understand those cases when high-quality products of Belarusian enterprises are criticized as having poor quality. It often turns out that inspection authorities have made mistakes. “Unfortunately, nobody offers apologies or publishes refutations. We think that this is inadmissible,” the minister stressed.

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said that he stands in solidarity with his Belarusian counterpart. “All the agreements reached within the EEU should be observed. As for the violations of the rules, we certainly should fight them. And this is the task for those who get paid for this, who are responsible for this area of our cooperation,” the Russian diplomat emphasized.

He pointed out that the Russian side has no doubts about the high quality of Belarusian products. “However, when our neighbors from the West try to get their low-quality goods to our market in violation of our reciprocal restrictions, we should close these channels. Then I guess, there will be no misunderstandings and confusions regarding the quality of products,” Sergei Lavrov said.
