Belarus' grain harvest over 90% complete

Less than 8% of areas under grain and leguminous crops (except for maize) is left to harvest in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 25 August, grain and leguminous crops (except for maize) were combined from 2.026 million hectares, which makes up 92.4% of the plan. Brest Oblast has harvested 98.5% of the plan (334,800 hectares), Grodno Oblast – 98.4% (317,500 hectares), Minsk Oblast – 97.2% (475,600 hectares), Gomel Oblast – 97.1% (331,500 hectares), Mogilev Oblast – 83% (275,800 hectares), Vitebsk Oblast – 79.4% (291,500 hectares). The harvesting of buckwheat and millet is in full swing, with 9.53% and 15.7% cropped in Belarus respectively.

A total of 7.554 million tonnes of grain has been threshed across the country with the average yield at 37.3 centners per hectare (in 2019, the yield as of the same date was 31.3 centners per hectare). Minsk Oblast has harvested more than 1.9 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast – 1.5 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – over 1.3 million tonnes, and Mogilev Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast – all more than 900,000 tonnes.

Flax has been harvested on the area of 45,400 hectares (93.2% of the area under this crop). Some 770,300 tonnes of hay (76.3% of the plan), 12,772 million tonnes of haylage (101.4%) and 1.014 million tonnes of silage (5.29%) have been stocked. In total, there are plans to procure 9.3 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed, most of them in Minsk Oblast and Brest Oblast. By this time, 45% of the plan has been fulfilled.
