Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform at Yuri Bashmet festival in Minsk

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform during the 14th Yuri Bashmet International Music Festival in Minsk, BelTA learned from the festival's art director, Belarusian pianist and conductor Rostislav Krimer.

A concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London will begin at 20:00 in the Grand Hall of the Palace of the Republic on 27 September. According to Rostislav Krimer, the orchestra comprises 80 unique musicians. They will fly to Minsk for one day to perform classic music masterpieces by Beethoven, Liszt, and Brahms.

By the way, listeners will be able to hear simultaneously several rare violins played by outstanding musicians of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. “Every year the Yuri Bashmet International Music Festival gathers the world's best musicians and composers in Minsk but I think the arrival of an entire orchestra of this caliber deserves more attention from our public,” the festival's director said.

Based in London, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) was formed by Thomas Beecham in 1946. It was granted royal status by Queen Elizabeth II. Since its inception it has become the world's leading classic music orchestra. It has also constantly demonstrated openness to everything new with original productions of classic music, orchestral music adaptations, joint records with the music bands Pink Floyd, U2, ABBA, Queen, and Oasis. At different times the legendary orchestra's conductors were Andre Previn, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov, and Charles Dutoit.

The Yuri Bashmet International Music Festival is an annual event that never stops to surprise even the savviest of listeners. Outstanding musicians from various countries will once again perform in the best halls of Minsk in late September. Apart from classic music stars and Grammy Award winners the festival will, as always, feature world premieres and crossover projects in an unusual format.
