Minsk, Beijing mull over joint professional skills competitions

Minsk and Beijing are planning to organize joint professional skills competitions, Chairman of the Minsk City Association of Trade Unions Nikolai Belanovsky told the media following his meeting with a delegation of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions in the Minsk Town Hall, BelTA has learned.

“Beijing and Minsk hold city competitions of professional skills. Both parties want the level of specialists and workers to be on par with modern requirements. We agreed to consider the lists of professions so that we could organize skills competitions. If we decide to hold joint competitions of professional skills, we will exchange delegations of representatives of labor collectives,” Nikolai Belanovsky noted.

Belarus views China's experience in pre-trial settlement of disputes as useful. “Private companies set up permanent commissions at the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions. They comprise representatives of the union of employers, government and trade unions. Any company can contact them to resolve a dispute between employee and employer, between the trade union and the employer. The decisions of these commissions are binding for all the parties to the dispute. This is the pre-trial settlement. We need this too,” Nikolai Belanovsky noted.

In turn, the head of the audit committee of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions Si Jian expressed the hope for closer cooperation.

We hope to deepen the cooperation between our unions in such areas as exchange of delegations of workers and trade union representiatives. We also welcome closer tiers not only between trade unions but also our cities and countries,” he stressed.

The first agreement on cooperation between the trade unions of Minsk and Beijing was signed in 2014. Work is now underway on the new memorandum to be signed in the capital of China in 2020.
