Average constituency at Belarus parliamentary elections at 62,900 voters

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus gave the average electorate across constituencies at 62,934 as it convened to discuss Belarus' parliamentary elections on 29 May, CEC Chairperson Lidia Yermoshina told reporters, BelTA has learned.

Today's meeting of the Central Election Commission was meant to discuss some technicalities related to the preparation and conduct of the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation. “The average electorate per constituency has been approved in order to obtain a legal basis for drafting the boarders of constituencies that should be approved as soon as the elections are announced,” she informed.

Apart from that, during today's session the CEC will pass guidelines for precinct, territorial and district election commissions. “The guidelines will be ready before the elections are announced. The newly established election commissions will be fully provided by them,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

She reminded that the date of the parliamentary elections will be determined by the head of state. The CEC can only decide on the timeframe, which is November.

The CEC head added that the start of the election campaign depends on the election date. If the elections take place in early November, the campaigning might kick off in late July. If the president agrees on the date suggested by the CEC, which is 17 November, the campaigning will start in early August.

A reminder, the Central Election Commission proposes to hold the elections to the House of Representatives on 17 November and the elections to the Council of the Republic on 7 November.

In his State of the Nation Address, the head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko said that Belarus will hold the parliamentary elections in 2019 and the presidential election campaign in 2020.
