In the Brest region imposed a ban on ice

In the Brest region imposed a ban on access to the ice due to its intense melting and destruction. The most difficult situation is in the southern regions, BelTA learned from the regional council of the Water Saving Society.

"The ice situation in the region is now unstable. The ice is beginning to thaw intensively, its structure is changing. Due to thaws, fog and sun, the cover becomes loose," the OSVOD noted. "There are ice in the area, 7 cm to 14 cm), but it is unreliable. "

Caution from going out on the ice is primarily concerned with winter fishing enthusiasts. To ensure their safety, they are recommended to have means of salvation, including vests, a rope from 5 m to 10 m in length. In addition, you should check its strength with a sand pick before starting to ice: if it hits the first time, it is extremely dangerous to go further. Rescuers are also asking parents to constantly monitor the whereabouts of their children.

In the Brest region since the beginning of the year there have been two accidents on the water. In particular, in the Drogichinsky district on January 4 a drunk man fell into the meliorative canal and drowned. Another accident happened on the afternoon of February 11 on the Pripyat River. In the Stolin district under the airboat with 11 people on board the ice broke, three passengers were in the water. Men 46 and 38 years old managed to be taken out of the water, the oldest of them later died, the younger was hospitalized. The body of a 39-year-old man is still looking for divers. Help in the search operation is provided by volunteers and local residents.

In 2018, 64 people died in the Brest region from water, including six children.
