Grodno this year will host the Olympic licensing tournament in weightlifting, as well as the world championship in weight-lifting and the European championship in orienteering among juniors. The head of the department of sports and tourism of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Oleg Andreichik said today at the final board, BelTA informs.
The calendar of sporting events in the region in 2019 will be intense. The Grodno region will become the mistress of significant international, republican and regional competitions.
"In August, Grodno will host a weightlifting tournament for the first time, in which the world's leading athletes will compete for licenses to participate in the Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo. It is also important that this significant forum will be dedicated to the memory of the famous Grodno sportsman, two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kurlovich ", - said Oleg Andreichik. The venue of the tournament will be the ice palace in the regional center.
In June, more than 500 participants from 35 countries will bring together the European Junior Orienteering Championship. The routes will be laid in the most picturesque places of the Grodno region - near the Augustow Canal, near the agro-town Ozery, and also in the center of Grodno. In parallel, mass competitions will be held for all comers, so at least 1,000 foreign guests are expected in Grodno.
In the fall, Grodno will host another international sports forum. In November, it is planned to hold the World Championship in various types of kettlebell sport.
"We are still in the center of attention of mass sports. For its development, many interesting events are planned for a wide range of participants: for the first time on the August Channel, for example, a 50 km trail race will be held, and a new bike route will be held to open the tourist season “AugustVelo.” The 75th anniversary of the Grodno region will mark the festival of sports longevity “We are only 75!”, Said Oleg Andreychik. He stressed that the calendar of the season included racing and cycling marathons and half-marath us, others massive and interesting tournaments.
In June, the region will host a festival of corporate sports. He sent to the revival of the sports movement in enterprises and organizations of the region. A laser wound tournament is also scheduled for the first summer month. This is a young sport, including running and shooting at targets with a laser gun at the shooting range.
The improvement of the material and technical base of the sports sector will continue in the Grodno region. About 3,5 thousand objects are available for sports and physical culture in the region.
“In 2018, 10 sports facilities were commissioned. Several significant discoveries are planned for the current year: sports complexes are being created in Novogrudok and Ostrovets. Next week, a specialized fencing hall opens in Grodno,” added Oleg Andreichik. There are plans for the reconstruction of swimming pools in Mosty and Smorgon. Work will continue to put sports areas in order in residential areas of cities, agro-towns and villages.
